It's been a long time since my last LBC post. In fact, it's been a long time since my last post written in English! But today I'm correcting that. I've made a post about lolitas that inspire me before, and here are another 3 lovely ladies with a superb sense of style.

I finally received my new petticoat so here goes a review.



♦ Poof and fit

I was looking for a "daily poof" type of petticoat, so this one suits my needs perfectly. It gives you a light A-line shape, nothing too over-the-top. The fact that is is unlined should allow me to layer if I ever need to.
The length is also great; most petticoats I see are around 45cm long, which would be too short for me even though I'm not tall.
It is comfy, not too hot, and easy to put on and take off since it stretches so much. For light weight and plain skirts, though, the bottom ruffles of the petticoat may create sort of an horizontal bumpy line, evidencing where the petti ends (you can see a bit of that on the last picture).

♦ Cost/Benefits

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase. If you want a daily A-line, plus-size and tall friendly petticoat, this is a good option. It is also very cute with all the little ruffles, and there are 6 colors available (no black unfortunately). I do find the price a bit high for the product, as I could probably find cheaper and poofier petticoats locally. But that's what Paypal/eBay coupons are for! ;)

Next is bonnets! This is the first one I ever made, with black and white striped fabric and various types of lace. It has a "stiff" brim with wire to keep it up, removable bow and rose (using my original print, matches the blog theme!). It's a half-bonnet, that ties up under the chin.

Agora são os bonnets! Esse é o primeiro que fiz, com listras preto-e-branco e vários tipos de renda. Tem uma aba "rígida", com armação para mantê-la em pé, laço e rosa removíveis (usando minha estampa original, combina com o tema do blog!). É um half-bonnet - ou seja, com a parte de trás descoberta - e amarra no queixo.

I hope everything went well over the holidays. I'm sorry for taking so long to update; I had hoped to start the year with my first traditional January Wardrobe post, but ran into some technical problems, so this post goes first!

Back in the day mismatched socks were more commonly associated with Punk styles and tacky outfits. With the recent tights craze, Grimoire and Lolita brands have started to release tights with asymmetrical designs, bringing back mismatched legwear in a much more elegant way.

This post is for those who want to try out this trend using socks! You can experiment with things you already own, mix, match and mismatch!

As you can see, mismatched socks can go with any Lolita sub-style. So don't take yourself too seriously and show a slightly quirky side in your outfits. Remember to coordinate colors and prints so that the legwear doesn't take away from the rest of the clothes.

Lastly, if you're not confident to try your own combinations, a few brands have tights that are discreetly asymmetrical, just enough to be different. If I'm not mistaken, Bodyline sells pre-mismatched socks and there are plenty of tattoo tights with designs only on one side.

Hey everyone!
My school year is over (that means I'm on vacation, yay!)

The last assignment for college this year involved creating a hypothetical brand and guess what - mine is a Lolita brand!

I named it Moonchild after the King Crimson song, using it as a metaphor for "alternative". It's a Gothic and Classic Lolita & Alternative brand.

For anyone interested in the process:

My class chose Literature as the general Theme. My personal theme was Dystopian Fiction, with Brave New World by Aldous Huxley and 1984 by George Orwell as main inspiration books. Secondary inspirations were the XVI Century and Ball-Jointed Dolls.

Throughout the year I had to design 4 Valentine's Day edition printed tops, 10 dresses and, at last, 7 complete coordinations for a grand total of 27 items not including accessories. There are 6 original prints.

I apologize beforehand for the quality of the images; I wasn't able to scan most of them and some are really dark, otherwise you wouldn't be able to see the lighter details.

These are the reject designs that didn't make the second cut. I still kind of like them, specially the last one.

The four Valentine's Day tops, each with a different print, and my friend modeling the sample for the last one. In case it isn't clear, it has openings across the top part and on the sleeves that show off the puffy lining.

These are the 10 dresses - 8 OPs, 2 JSKs, since this is a Winter collection. The dress on the top right has doll eyes embroidered all over the bodice. The top right one on the second page is a wedding dress! 

Fabrics include different types of cotton, chiffon, velvet, brocade, knit, faux-fur... and, of course, there are a few different types of lace.

The final line-up! It includes 4 of the 10 original dresses, and lots of new pieces: 1 new dress, 4 blouses, 1 pair of shorts, 1 pair of bloomers, 2 skirts, a cardigan, a peignoir, a corselet and a jacket.

Only the first outfit was manufactured (for now! I really hope to get myself a few of the others), and below is a picture of another friend modeling it along with a few extra pictures. This blouse is a true free-size. It fits even me!

It also works with dark colors, as in the leftmost coordinate with burgundy accents - notice how not even the print has wine in it? And don't restrict yourself to a wig-shoes combination. In the picture to the right, the large golden bag might have overpowered the outfit if it wasn't for the blonde wig. Not exactly a cotton bud, but it has the hair/bottom half item combo.

I'm so willing to try this! If only I had something other than black, haha...

For this week's Lolita Blog Carnival I chose two books: one of my all-time favorites, and a book I haven't read yet but plan to (hopefully, soon!).

♦ The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkien

I love this book. It takes place in Tolkien's complex and fantastic universe, but is a much lighter read than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. My favorite race is the Dwarves, but I tried to include a little bit of every culture in the coord and the overall feeling of Middle Earth. The main point is lots of diverse textures and somewhat unusual colors for Lolita.


♦ Interview with the Vampire by Anne Rice

I watched the movie recently and fell in love with it. My plan is to read all the books in the Vampire Chronicles series. This is a pretty straightforward coordinate, mainly inspired by child vampire Claudia. Red is for blood and the dark blue represents the indigo plantation one of the characters had. There are a few other references (the mouse, crosses, coffin) in the little details.
I hope you liked these coordinates! The second one was quite easy to put together, but the first one gave me quite a lot of trouble. Finding the right balance between Lolita and murky Middle Earth was hard. This was a really fun topic, though!

There are many beautiful lolitas that I admire and I can't help but think: "I wish I had her wardrobe!" or "someday I'll dress as nicely as she does!" - and surely others think like that sometimes, too.

What makes some people's way of dressing so stylish and unique, and how to incorporate some of their style to your own wardrobe while staying true to yourself?

This is what I was wondering when I decided to choose 3 of my favorite lolitas from all around the world and highlight in which ways I can take inspiration from them!

♦ Karine of My Subarashii LoliDays

This beautiful Brazilian lolita has a neatly organized "Wardrobe" section in her blog, with lovely pictures of all of her lolita items. The most impressive part, to me, is that all pieces fit into her own color scheme (with some of my favorite colors, too!).

That is something I would like to bring to my own closet. Although experimenting and trying out new colors is nice, having a solid base that you can mix and match with no fear of going wrong makes a wardrobe much more versatile. Besides, having your favorite colors and themes brings the clothes closer to a reflection of your personality.

Another point is that the items include plenty of Bodyline, Indie and Off-brand, blending in very well together with Brand and knocking any prejudices people might have. This is a really beautiful wardrobe and miss Karine wears it very elegantly!

♦ Hello!

Months ago I created seven lolita coordinates inspired by the Rozen Maiden anime. Some time later I learned that Innocent World released a whole collection based on that anime, and I felt the need to do a follow-up post.

This is my list of all (or at least I hope so!) Lolita Brand x Anime collaborations to this date. I used the brand's selected images when possible, and on the others I worked my hardest to find images that look similar to the final design. Enjoy!

Meses atrás eu criei sete coords lolita inspirados no anime Rozen Maiden. Algum tempo depois eu fiquei sabendo que a marca Innocent World lançou uma coleção inteira baseada nesse anime, e senti que precisava fazer um post complementando o anterior.

An action and supernatural anime. It surprises me that the only CLAMP-related anime to collab with a Lolita brand is this one, which has no lolita characters as far as I can tell. This collab was done along with the release of the movie, Blood-C: The Last Dark.

Dangan Ronpa: Academy of Hope and High School of Despair - The Animation is a mystery story. The outfit AatP put out is almost an exact reproduction of the oufit character Celestia Ludenberg wears.

The Mystic Archives of Dantalian is a supernatural anime in a historical setting. The cute character Dalian wears this long black and red dress. The collaboration was released along with the anime itself.

A mystery, drama and romance anime. Victorique de Blois, the main character, is also the one who wears most Lolita-like clothing. The collaboration was released along with the anime itself.

Jellyfish Princess is one of my favorite manga. The anime doesn't exactly follow the original story, but the collab was released along with it. It's a comedy and romance story. No lolitas here, but lots of fashionable people (and lots of badly dressed people, too!).

Black Butler is a dark supernatural story with plenty on comedy set in the Victorian Era. Expect boys and girls in cute historical-ish clothing and, well, butlers in black. Atelier Boz and BPN released along with the original anime, while AatP's release went along with Kuroshitsuji II.

Black Butler é uma história sombria de sobrenatural com comédia que se passa na Era Vitoriana. Você vai ver garotos e garotas em roupas "históricas" gracinha e, bem, mordomos de preto. ♦ Macross Frontier

A romance and idol story... in space! Also no lolita characters, but plenty cute stage costumes to look at. Most of the releases were based on the movie Macross Frontier: Wings of Goodbye and exhibited at Marui One in Shinjuku at the "Oshare Macross" event. The AP one I believe is to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the original Macross series.

Uma história de amor e música... no espaço! Também não tem nenhuma personagem lolita, mas várias roupas de palco pra olhar. A maioria dos lançamentos de marcas seguiu o filme Macross Frontier: Wings of Goodbye e foram exibidos na Marui One de Shinjuku, no evento "Oshare Macross". Acredito que o da AP tenha sido pra comemorar os 30 anos da série Macross original.

A mystery, comedy and drama anime. Character Takakura Himari wears almost spot-on lolita most of the time, the collab is a near reproduction of that outfit.

Um anime de mistério, comédia e drama. A personagem Takakura Himari usa uma roupa quase perfeitamente lolita a maior parte do tempo, a colaboração é praticamente uma reprodução desse look.

♦ Rozen Maiden

I've talked about these battling antique dolls here before. This collab was released along with the anime Rozen Maiden: Zurückspulen. All seven sets were displayed at a cafe in Akihabara, the "Rozen Maiden's Ocean House".

This is a dark supernatural anime. There is at least one lolita in the cast, Kirishiki Sunako, but I believe most of these brand designs were created specially for the Laforet Harajuku Special Corner ~Shiki in Laforet~ event.
